In this case the same authorizations are valid how at the Diploma- and Magisterabschlüssen. Abilities become the scientific work and methodology as soon as theoretical-analytical abilities attains. Master courses of studies can be research-orientated application-oriented, artistic and teaching position-referred, according to emphasis. Some compartments are not offered as independent courses of studies, but they can be studied in combination with other compartments. A master course of studies must correspond to the requirements of the diploma degree so that an equivalent qualification can be achieved. Thus the final examination contains also a written master work, similar to a master's thesis. Some profession-qualifying university studies are basic requirement for the admission. In the same way the master facilitates a subsequent graduation. The master study can be completed also as correspondence course. The master courses of studies are divided into Germany in three categories. Consecutive master courses of studies follow in a Bachelorstudium and deepen or enlarge it fach extending. In this case the study time is at least and at most two years, in total five years must not be exceeded, however. Only at art and music colleges the master course of studies can be broadened to six years. Non-Consecutive Master Courses of Studies connect themselves to a finished study which does not have to agree also with regard to the contents with the following master. A professional reorientation is facilitated by that. At the weiterbildenden courses of studies an at least one year long qualified professional experience is presupposed, that considers in the course of studies and is built up. They correspond in the qualification the consecutive master courses of studies.

The master opens the authorization for the subsequent graduation, both with end at universities and at Fachhochschulen. With the Bachelorgrad an admission can occur only in exceptions for a graduation study if a separate procedure for the suitability determination has gone ahead. In Europe the unification of the courses of studies and the ends is worked on within the framework of the Bologne-process. Since no universal equivalence exists, this of the responsible Ministry of Education in case of doubt is checked. On international level the systems distinguish still clearly. So a master can also be assigned in the USA only through the participation of events and examinations. Other criteria are valid with the admission to the master course of studies so that such ends are not acknowledged in Germany normally. In the same way it behaves in Canada. In England, Austria and Switzerland are valid on the other hand similar definition as in Germany. The master keeps on facilitating also access to careers of the higher service in the public service. Several end denominations which are defined dependently on the contents of the course of studies are valid for the different master courses of studies. For consecutive masters only seven different ends are approved, professional are in this case general not permissible. At non-consecutive and weiterbildenden master courses of studies can be chosen free from the colleges, both deviating of the consecutive ones than also in agreement with these. It must be in this case, however, guaranteed that also the same qualification to reason lies. Thus different end denominations can be given for with regard to the contents related courses of studies. The introduction of the stepped Studiensystemes is supposed to be finished in Germany 2010.
